God’s Handiwork
“The heavens declare the glory of God; and the firmament sheweth his handywork.” (Ps. 19:1)
It’s that time of year again. The days are getting shorter, the nights are getting cooler, the leaves on the trees are turning, and many are becoming preoccupied with preparations for the holidays ahead. Fall has officially arrived.
To many, fall is considered to be the most beautiful season of the year. The vast array of colors in the trees as the leaves change is absolutely breathtaking, and the stark appearance of trees without leaves has a beauty all its own. The spectacle of fall is much grander if you have an opportunity to observe its display in the mountains, where trees, streams and dramatic vistas blend together to showcase God’s magnificent handiwork.
Have you ever considered the fact that this beauty is the direct result of a God-ordained process in nature that mimics death? While the trees don’t actually die, they do shut down for the winter. They live through the coldest months of the year without the benefit of their leaves by using energy stored during spring and summer seasons. Then a new spring arrives, and with it the return to visible life (resurrection) and the process begins all over again.
It’s no accident that the passing of these seasons is often associated with the process of aging in a believer’s life. Please don’t forget that there is a beauty in every season, even in the physical lives of believers.
We are God’s handiwork too!
